Choose your Node version
The Portal runtime and each application runtime are independent.
Supported majors
| Major | Installer pin | Portal SQLite driver |
|---|---|---|
| 20 | 20.20.2 | better-sqlite3 11.10.0 |
| 22 | 22.23.3 | node:sqlite |
| 24 · default | 24.18.0 | node:sqlite |
| 26 | 26.10.0 | node:sqlite |
Node 20 is retained for legacy compatibility. Prefer 24 for a new installation. Support does not include odd-numbered or future majors.
Portal versus project
The installer --node-major flag selects the Portal/helper runtime. Signed updates preserve HOSTMGR_NODE_MAJOR. Native Node projects choose their own major in Project settings; installation, build, health and systemd use that choice. A release retains its major for rollback; old releases default to 24. Portal does not read .nvmrc to choose a service runtime.
Switch locally with nvm
For Linux/macOS/WSL with nvm already installed. Windows PowerShell uses its own Node installation; these nvm-sh commands are not PowerShell commands.
nvm install 24.18.0
nvm use 24.18.0
node --version
npm ci
npm run demoRerun npm ci when switching majors so native dependencies match. Both SQLite drivers use the same database/schema; back up state and its existing key before changing production runtimes.
